My Why

Broken Top Central Oregon Mountain

I feel close to my Maker when I am taking intimate photographs of nature and wildlife; especially birds. From far away these creatures are beautiful: the vibrant colors they show in their soft feathers or their bright striking eyes staring back at me, fills my soul with joy. However, something very special happens when my camera lens brings me even closer to them. A truly magical world opens up all around me. It’s a fascinating encounter that can’t be seen by the naked eye simply passing by.

When I gaze upon the astonishing ruby-red eye of the Spotted Towhee I marvel at how dazzling it is! The brilliant rich, sky-blue of the Mountain Bluebird is breathtaking and it’s individual silky feathers mesmerize me. I laugh as I capture the black “zorro” mask of the Cedar Waxwing almost challenging me as to his true identity, while a flash of the canary-yellow, wax-tipped tail feathers give him away immediately. As the daylight comes to a sleepy close and the sunset palette of fiery-orange washes over the western sky, I gasp as our beloved and glorious mountains, boldly fill the bottom of the frame, standing guard over this peaceful countryside.

These very special moments in time are what I seek with my camera. Hours literally slip by while I’m sitting quietly waiting for nature’s wondrous moments to unfold before my lens. My sincerest wish is to share a little bit of this magic with you through my photographs and hopefully brighten your day, knowing the hidden natural world around us is alive and brimming with charm and wonder.

Best wishes,

Lena Land
